The Atlanta Falcons have released three of their top veteran players on the roster. Running back Michael Turner, corner back Dunta Robinson and defensive end John Abraham are the three players that have been released. These veteran players being released is the start of the Falcons youth movement. By releasing Turner, Robinson and Abraham the Falcons have freed up about 16 million dollars in cap room. Atlanta is planning to use most that freed cap room on young talent in free agency.
Michael Turner had started to lose playing time with the addition of Jacquizz Rodgers. With him at the age of 31 years old, the Falcons decided it was time to part ways and go with the quicker and younger Jacquizz Rodgers. Michael Turner says that he has some years left in him and is looking to join another team.
Dunta Robinson is now 30 years old and has not had pretty good seasons while playing with the Atlanta Falcons. He became a solid player in the Falcons secondary since being signed. It was time for the Falcons to release the ageing star in order to go with a younger player that they could pick up in this year’s free agency.
John Abraham has been the team’s best pass rusher since joining the team. He was injured at the end of last season and did not do much in the playoffs. His age was ultimately led to his release from the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons will most likely sign a younger star to replace Abraham.
Not only are the Falcons planning to sign younger talent but they also need the money to go towards a new contract for their quarterback, Matt Ryan. This will be interesting to see who the Atlanta Falcons use their freed cap space on.
