CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Confora is reporting that the New York Jets are going to explore options to deal star cornerback Darrelle Revis this offseason. Revis missed most of the 2012 season with an torn ACL. The Jets may believe that they will not be able to resign him after his contract expires after the 2014 season, so trading him now would be a very interesting idea. However, I don’t think it’s a move the Jets should make.
Let’s face it, when healthy, Darrelle Revis is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, if not the best. And remember that he’s still only 27 years old. He does cause a couple of contractual headaches, but for the most part, Darrelle Revis has made a huge impact on the Jets on and off the field.
I speculate that his contract is probably the main reason they want to get ride of Revis. He’s slated to make $6 million in 2013 and that’s without the bonuses he will probably receive for good play.
Overall, I think the Jets should think long and hard before they trade away the best playoff on their team. If they trade him, it will be a decision they will regret.
