Mariucci wants to be part of the Chargers new era

SI.com’s Peter King reported that Steve Mariucci has interest in coaching the San Diego Chargers next season.  Mariucci addressed the report Sunday night that he has never spoken to King about the Chargers job.Steve Mariucci

“I would never comment on a coaching job where there’s a coach in place, and the coach down there in San Diego happened to be a very good friend of mine, Norv Turner,” Mariucci said on NFL Network. “There’s no way I would ever discuss this right now, I don’t know where it comes from. Let’s just stop the nonsense, OK? Please.”

We understand that there’s an unwritten rule that a coach shouldn’t talk about a job that is currently being occupied by another coach, but it has been reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune that general manager A.J. Smith and head coach Norv Turner would be fired by the end of the 2012 regular season.  I personally cannot see Turner dodging this pink slip; Turner has coached the Bolts since 2007.

Mariucci has not coached since being fired by the Detroit Lions in 2005 and has been an analyst for the NFL Network since.  It has been reported that he was interested in the University of Arkansas head coaching job before the Razorbacks hired Brent Bielema from the University of Wisconsin.
