The QB carousel continues for the New York Jets. Head Coach Rex Ryan has informed the media that Sanchez will be benched and third string QB Greg McElroy will get the start for the Jets in Week 16 against the San Diego Chargers. The news comes after a horrible performance on Monday Night Football against the Tennessee Titans. Sanchez completed less than 50% of his passes and threw 1 TD to 4 INTs, two of which came during the second half of the 4th quarter. The loss eliminated the Jets form playoff contention.
What’s interesting is Rex Ryan decided to start Greg McElroy instead of Tim Tebow. McElroy has been inactive for every game this season except for one, while Tebow was brought in during the offseason to be the backup QB. It’s safe to say that Tim Tebow has been misused in New York, and this just proves the lack of faith they have in him as a QB.
Rex Ryan had this to say in a conference call with reporters, “I can answer this question a million ways — frontward, backward, sideways, anything else. It’s my decision, and I based it on a gut feeling or whatever. Everything it comes down to is, I believe it’s the best decision for our team. That’s the only factor that goes into these decisions.”
To make matters even worse, Tebow will ask to be traded or released by the Jets if Greg McElroy starts the last two games of the season, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. Things are getting really ugly in the Big Apple.
