Raiders trade WR Murphy to the Panthers

The Oakland Raiders trade wide receiver Louis Murphy to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a disclosed draft pick.

Murphy was Oakland’s fourth-round draft pick out of Florida University in 2009 and became a vertical threat when he stepped on the field with 7 catches for 1,130 yards and 6 TDs in his first two seasons, but a groin injury slowed him down drastically where he only played one game last season.

The Raiders has a nice WR corps with Denarius Moore, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Jacoby Ford; with fifth-round pick Juron Criner and undrafted free agent Rod Streater out-shining him in the offseason workouts, made Murphy expendable.

Murphy will join last season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, Cam Newton, in an offensive that has jumped from the bottom in points and yards in 2010 to almost top five in the NFL.
