The following are notable Miami Dolphin players entering their contract year, becoming possible free agents after the 2012-2013 season.
-Key Playmakers (Most likely to re-sign)
-Back ups, or un proven (recently signed) players who have a high possibility of entering FA.
RB Reggie Bush, RB Steve Slaton, WR Legedu Naanee, TE Jeron Mastrud, OT Jake Long, OT Lydon Murtha, OG Artis Hicks, DL Tony McDaniel, DL Randy Starks, LB Gary Guyton LB Jason Trusnik, SS Yeremiah Bell
Most likely outcomes of Miami’s BIGGEST and most vital play makers:
(RB) Reggie Bush: Prior to last season, he was signed on a 2 year deal and is coming off a career year. With RBs Daniel Thomas and 2012 draftee Lamar Miller, you may see Bush lined up on the outside as a receiver more so in 2012 than previously seen. Lamar Miller will most likely not play a key role in Miami’s run game in 2012, there is a good possibility Thomas and Bush will play similar roles in the offense as last year. There is a very high chance that Reggie Bush will re-negotiate and remain a Miami Dolphin after the upcoming season.
(OT) Jake Long: There isn’t much to write here other than this 2008 1st overall pick, 4-time career Pro Bowler WILL re-sign with Miami. There have been a few rumors saying otherwise, but this all star OT is the pillar of the offensive line, and is arguably the best linemen in the league today. There is no chance Miami let’s this all-pro tackle fall to free agency without a massive price tag.
Notes on possible free agents:
(WR) Legedu Naanee: This former San Diego Charger was signed on a 1yr deal with Miami, and there is no definitive answer as to if he will play a key role in Miami’s 2012 receiving core. The Fins have a dozen WRs battling it out in camp right now, however, one advantage this veteran has over the majority of his fellow team’s competition is experience (5 years). In 2011, he recorded a career high 44 receptions on 467 yards, with 1 TD in San Diego. If he wants to stay in Miami he’ll have to produce similar numbers with this offense, or you will most likely see him sign elsewhere.
(SS) Yeremiah Bell: Former defensive captain and leading tackler for Miami in 2 consecutive seasons, has already been released as a free agent this offseason, but there is a possibility he may re-sign. He was released for cap space issues, and the Miami front office has made it public that he had been eligible to resign at a lower wage if he hadn’t found another club. However, this period is drawing to an end and his current situation still remains unclear.
(OT) Lydon Murtha: After being on Miami’s injured reserve list, he has been crippled the majority of his time with the Fins. This former 7th round pick will be competing with 2012 draftee Jonathan Martin for the RT posistion. He has turned some heads in training camp, and out of his 9 starts, has done exceptionally well covering Miami’s weak right side. There is a fair possibility that he will be beaten out by 2nd round pick Jonathan Martin, and fall to free agency in 2013.
