AFC East Division 1st Round Picks

Buffalo Bills: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

-The Bills have added yet another playmaker to secure their defense. With the addition of Stephon Gilmore, and Pro Bowl DEs Mario Williams and Mark Anderson, the Buffalo Bills defense is on track to deal out some serious damage to opposing offenses in the upcoming 2012 season.

Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

-Approximately 95% of NFL expert mock drafts predicted Miami selecting QB Ryan Tannehill out of Texas A&M so this was without any surprise. Miami has had over 17 starting quarterbacks (NFL record) since Marino’s retirement in 2000. This is also their first, 1st round QB pick since Marino (27th overall) in 1983. The big question is Tannehill’s experience. He is arguably the most athletic QB coming out of the 2012 draft, and has tons of work to do over the upcoming season learning behind current starter Matt Moore and/or possibly veteran David Garrard.

New England Patriots: (From Cincinnati) Chandlers Jones, DE, Syracuse. (From Denver) Dont’a Hightower, ILB, Alabama

-The Patriots had yet another extremely successful draft, and may have possibly had the most promising of this year’s 1st round. They gained two 1st rounders from Cincinnati and Denver from trades, and both picks contribute to their intention of bolstering their less than impressive defense.

New York Jets: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

-Many experts have questioned Coples’ work ethic after evidence of him breaking down late in games. This was one of the causes for his slide down to the Jets’ 16th pick. Regardless of this, the addition of Coples’ will improve their pass rush even further.
