Steve Smith agrees to three-year extension with the Panthers

The Carolina Panthers have agreed to a three-year contract extension with veteran Pro-Bowl WR Steve Smith. The financial numbers weren’t announced but is projected to be over the $7.75 million he was due. The Panthers included a fourth year club option so they’ll have to make a decision in the summer of ’14 on whether or not to add one more year through ’16. The team was previously $1 million under the cap space, this deal is likely to ease the space up by spreading his bonus over the next three years. Smith caught 79 passes for 1,394 yards and seven touchdowns in 2011.

  1. Good article! I can’t see Smith anywhere else BUT the Panthers; he’s smart, he knows he has a great QB in the making in Cam and Cam will be looking for him in most of the games for the long one! I’m happy for Smith.
