Head Coach Romeo Crennel was interviewed and asked what type of players the Chiefs might be looking for. “You can never have enough speed on your team or enough pass rushers”, he said. “We’re always looking for pass rushers and we’re always looking for speed receivers.” Crennel believes they do not have to draft for need. He likes the look of his roster heading towards the draft. “”When we go into the draft, we can look at the best athlete available and the guys who we think can help our team the most.”
Coach Crennel said he’s been getting positive reports on RB Jamaal Charles’ rehab from a torn ACL. “The trainer said is on schedule. That being said, you always have to wait until you get them on the field to see how they really do.” Strong Safety Eric Berry injured his knee on the first play of the 2011 season; he’s been off the football field for 7 months. During this time, his body is completely healed, minus the knee. Eric is in Florida with his trainer and says his rehab is right on track and just making sure he’s ready to go. He seems very anxious to get back on the field.
1. Nose Tackle: Just as plain as a bump on your…well, you know. The Nose Tackle is the key position in the 3-4 defense that the Chiefs have been running for years and they haven’t had a presence at that position for a while. This is a must.
2. Defensive End: The Chiefs lack depth in this position. Glenn Dorsey has done a great job as a starter, but he is at the end of his rookie contract. They have Allen Bailey and Tyson Jackson, but it drops off after that.
3. Left Guard: 7 year veteran Ryan Lilja held the spot down, but he’s in the twilight of his career and the Chiefs want to keep to keep last year’s second round pick Rodney Hudson at the Center position.

*RB Thomas Jones is showing his age (he’ll be 34 at the beginning of the season) and it’s going to be hard for him to get the deal he’s looking for (any kind of deal for that matter). You can tell he’s losing a step when he runs on the field. Father Time is still undefeated!
*RB Jackie Battle is a four-year veteran who might have to go elsewhere to find some playing time to show his skills.
*TE Anthony Becht has finished his eleventh season in the league and might not be in a Chiefs’ uniform in 2012.
*TE Leonard Pope was a favorite of former Head Coach Todd Haley, will he catch new Head Coach Romeo Crennel’s eye to stay on the team?
*WR Jerheme Urban has been on the team for two seasons and has not made his mark, mostly due to all the injuries he accumulated.
