New Orleans ran a ‘bounty’ program from 2009-2011

The New Orleans Saints could face severe punishment for bounty payments that were made between 22 and 27 defensive players over the last couple of seasons. Former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams controlled the program, which gave players $1,500 for a knockout hit and $1,000 for a cart-off hit, the payment would increase if the hit was in a playoff game.

During the Saints Super Bowl run, quarterbacks Brett Favre and Kurt Warner were among targets, cash bounties of up to $10,000 were put up prior to the start of the game. Roger Goodell who led the investigation, will have to decide New Orleans’ punishment for the ‘bounty’ program.
