Matt Forte and the Bears will continue to work on a long-term deal after the Pro Bowl running back received the franchise tag. He will earn a base salary of $7.7 million in the 2012 season, but he’s expected to sign a long-term contract before the July 16 deadline. Bears general manager Phil Emery said “Matt is an important part of our football team and we chose to utilize the franchise tag to ensure he remains a Bear,” said general manager Phil Emery.”
